Despicable Me 2

I’m not entirely sure why the movies are named Despicable Me but regardless of the title, the sequel was great! I took my brother to see the movie along with the boyfriend and his brother and despite our age differences, we all enjoyed it equally.

Despicable Me 2 picks up where the first movie left off with Gru and the three girls he’s adopted. There’s growth in each of the characters: Gru has become a more loving and understanding father, Margo is delving into the world of boys and crushes, Edith (even though she has the fewest lines) is growing into her tomboy self, and Agnes (while just as adorable as before) shows compassion and understanding of her family. The sequel also introduces a whole host of new characters that help move along a new plot and character development.

The thing that Despicable Me does unlike any other movie is its slapstick humor. With the minion army that Gru has amassed, the movie adds a whole new genre of funny – minion comedy! The minions are a healthy break from any movie, reminding us to not take life too seriously and that there’s always time for fun and laughter.

Despicable Me 2 is a family movie – it caters to all age groups with slapstick humor, 90’s references, and adorable characters. I can’t wait for it to come out on DVD so I can rewatch it!

Here’s my favorite scene from the movie:
