I’ll be driving down to LA for my permanent move later today and probably won’t get a chance to update until I settle in. By that time it’ll be the 4th of July which means it’s only a day from my birthday!!!

Cocktail Cart
I’ve been thinking about the different things I want to put in my new place since furniture isn’t going to be much of an issue. I figured I could splurge a little on some other pieces that I normally wouldn’t have. One of the things I’ve always longed to have was a little mini bar or cocktail cart so I could mix up fancy cocktails for guests…or well, let’s be real, me.
I saw this one on abeautifulmess.com a while ago and it’s been stuck on my mind ever since. I’ve been looking at cheap carts at IKEA or the Container Store and I’m really getting attached to the idea. One of the things on my “22 Things to do Before I turn 23” list is to learn to mix 5 different drinks. Wouldn't this cart look awesome with some mason jars and fun straws? Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself...

Don't Fear the Internet
One of the skill sets I’ve been trying to master is learning HTML and CSS. Being a Political Science and Media Studies double major, these are areas that were not included in our curriculum though I think they’re pretty important to have. Being able to build a basic website is something I’ve always wanted to learn to do but I don’t really have a need for a website (well perhaps a resume/portfolio would be nice but that’s for a later day) except for my blogs. I currently run two blogs, neither of which gets much readership, but they’re both my outlets in different ways.
I redid my Tumblr blog over winter break with a lot of Googling and Tumblr FAQ because I wanted a theme that was more personal to my tastes and I wanted to emulate some of the blogs that I follow that I really liked. Unfortunately, all I got was a shoddy copycat version of some of my favorite blogs and though it does serve its purpose, it’s not exactly the most beautiful. Nonetheless, it was my first attempt at coding something aesthetically and I have a long ways to go.
So for this new chapter in my life and new beginning of my 22nd year, I’m adding learning HTML and CSS to my list of things to do (I’ll post the whole list on my birthday. FOUR MORE DAYS!) and I’m going to try and revamp both my blogs. I’m currently using Blogger to maintain this blog but I’m debating whether I should transfer it to Tumblr so I can run both my blogs from the same platform…another issue for another day, I guess.
To help me on my HTML and CSS endeavors, I turned to Google to see if it could just suggest some sites to help me out. I originally went through most of the tutorials on W3Schools and it gave me a pretty basic understanding but because Tumblr and Blogger both have tags and stuff that are pretty specific to each of their platforms, there’s still a lot I don’t know!
I’ve decided to take it back to basics and almost start all over, while keeping a notebook to solidify all my learning. You can take the girl out of school, but the schooling never really leaves the girl. I’m currently watching videos on “Don’t Fear the Internet” and it’s teaching you all the basics and giving me a better understanding of CSS, which I never really understood. It's great because the videos aren't too long, maybe 10-14 minutes tops for the longest ones and shorter 5 minute intro videos. I can also pause and go back if I want to copy stuff down, which is great. I’m hoping after all my tutorials, I’ll have a better understanding as well as better looking blog!

Mint.com
So I’m starting my new job in two weeks and one thing I’m pretty terrible at is budgeting my money. Now that I’m out of college, I can’t exactly rely on the United Bank of Parents to fund my every need and wish and whim. So what does an individual of the “Me Generation” do when they have a problem? Download an app!
I remember reading about Mint.com a while ago on Tumblr. A friend had mentioned it as a way of keeping track of money and I filed it away for later. Now that I know I’m going to have a pretty fixed income, I figured it’s probably smart to set aside certain amounts of money for different things and put some away in my savings as well.
The cool thing about Mint.com is that you can actually budget individual categories. For example, I can choose to budget about $150 on groceries a month and $50 on gas and Mint.com will keep track of my spending. It will tell you when you’re getting close to your limit or go over. Another added benefit is that you can put a password on the app so friends scrolling through your phone can’t access your Mint account and see how much money you’re spending. The only thing I wish it did was separate my checking and savings accounts so they’re not just added together at the top. I tend to only spend money from my checking account anyway so I’d rather only see that total.
My budgeting is all messed up for the month of June but since July starts tomorrow, I’ll see how well I can stick to my proposed budget. It’ll take a little bit of time to figure out how what my exact budgeting is and fall into a good rhythm but I think this will be a good start.

July is my favorite month, because it’s my birthday month of course! July is also the first month that is entirely summer!
My July is going to be pretty incredible: I’m moving to my new places in Redondo Beach. I’ll be celebrating my birthday going to Universal Studios with my family. I may or may not be visiting the east coast for a short while. And then I start my new job! It’s going to be an exciting month and even more exciting start to my 22nd year!
